St Johns High school is a mixed boarding school that is situated 55km east of Harare in Chikwaka Goromonzi District. Our school motto, in pursuit of excellence has been the guiding spirit of the school since its inception. There is more about the school which one can only learn by being part of it. One must try and adjust quickly so that he/she can contribute as much as he/she can to the school. There is no doubt that the school has a lot to offer.
St John’s High is a co-educational school and is run by the Anglican Church Dioces of Harare (CPCA). It is a boarding school which attracts students from across the country. We do not discriminate. We are inclusive which brings diversity. In terms of priorities, the school aims to educate the whole person. Emphasis is placed on both the academic side and the practical side. This has made our school to be a school of choice with an outstanding reputation. The school is sought after by both students and teachers. Competition to get a place is very stiff.

Chikwaka's Brief History

St John’s High School Chikwaka started in 1972 with an enrolment of very few students from surrounding villages and Shearly Cripps Children’s Home. In 1975, the enrolment rose to 250 of which 79 were girls. That was due to students who enrolled after being displaced by war in Manicaland and other Eastern areas. The present day headmaster’s house was the girls’ dormitory while the boys used the primary school classroom as their dormitories whilst facilities were under construction. The school is situated 55km east of Harare in Chikwaka Goromonzi District.
A number of headmasters headed the school. Mr. Mukwereza, who was the pioneering headmaster. These included Father Gresham, Mr. Murandu, Mr. Musonza, Mr. Kwaramba, Mr. Miti and Mr. Masukume, Mr Nheweyembwa came in 1984 and Mr. Gaza in 2009.
Most buildings at the institution were constructed by students under the supervision of a Building teacher. The building of the school hall and one of girls’ dormitory wings was made possible by the Beit Trust Fund.
Advanced Level studies were started in 1996. In 1997, school got a merit award (Secretary’s Bell Award) from the Ministry of Education Sports and Culture. The school has been developing in terms of its infrastructure, enrolment, quality of education, sports and personnel.
